Optimization of welded K-node in offshore jacket structure including the stochastic size effect

Offshore structures are exposed to cyclic loading and thereby at risk of fatigue failure, especially the welded joints between trusses in offshore jacket foundations. In this paper, an optimization framework for considering damages is presented. The can be used optimize orientation location welds connecting joint a K-node damage. It known that longer higher failure compared shorter welds. To account this, statistical size effect modelled using Karhunen-Loéve expansion which take into damage assessment. approach included it shown method possible simulate having good welding quality poor correlation length coefficient variation. proposed validated on simple plate structure input parameters examined. results show robust predicting expected tendencies structure.
